PART ONE: REDISCOVERING LILITH
Session 2: HOW HAS LILITH BEEN DISTORTED & SUPPRESSED?
INTRODUCTORY READING:
Invocation of Lilith by Nuit Moore (p. 221)

OPENING CIRCLE (sit in silence for one minute, palms touching each other’s)
OPENING QUOTE
“We must traverse the annals of history to unearth the sacred sites that have been violently gentrified by white patriarchy. We must find the Divine Truth that cannot be claimed, contained or tamed. What better place to start than at the beginning with Lilith, the world’s first woman.”
—Christena Cleveland, Ph.D.
EXPLORATION: HOW HAS LILITH BEEN DISTORTED & SUPPRESSED?
In our last session we looked at who Lilith is and was, through many different lenses. Now that our understanding of her is growing, let us turn our attention to how her embodied feminine power has been distorted and suppressed, while also exploring the motives for such twisting of truth. This session will serve to help us separate our truth about Lilith (and feminine strength) from the cultural and religious amalgam we have absorbed.
SUGGESTED READINGS (go around the circle, allowing all participants a chance to read)
Note: These pieces where chosen because they speak to the question, “How has Lilith been distorted and suppressed?” Participants may read the piece in its entirety (if short) or an excerpt (if longer). The reader can select the passage(s) if excerpting. If time/resources exist, you may also project the image on the screen, making sure you credit the artist.
